Dave – We have been sent by Samaritan’s Purse, and Dave is working at Tansen Mission Hospital. The picture above is actually the view from the hill above the hospital. The hospital is currently run by United Mission to Nepal, who have a long history in development work in Nepal. Dave works as the head of the medical department, as he was trained in internal medicine. However, when on call he covers the pediatric and maternity wards as well. His training is stretched further through the newly acquired skills of echocardiogram and endoscopy, which he routinely uses. The hospital in Tansen was built in 1958, and has a total of 165 beds, including maternity wards, surgical wards, burn unit, orthopedic ward, medical ward, and pediatric wards, in addition to a surgical staff and operating rooms. The hospital focuses on teaching Nepali residents and health care providers, so the impact of the work here will spread to the rest of the country.
